大江健三郎在《為什麼孩子要上學》說了他的妻子的一個故事，小時候身體非常不好，「長年臥病在床，因而得以幸福地讀書度日，她的母親反覆在她耳邊朗讀宮澤賢治的童話，在那絕妙的韻律和想像力之下，她一節一節地把賢治的文章背了來....過了五十年，她對小孩子講起大提琴的葛修遇到老鼠母子的故事，她都會想起少女時代的光景...」(p.60)
